Distance learning in old age

The Academic Association of Senior Citizens in Germany (AVDS) represents retired people at all universities in Germany. It raises awareness of the issue of "studying in old age", campaigns for improved study opportunities and supports students. If you are interested in studying in old age, the association is a helpful contact point. There, you can get information about study programmes, universities, courses, etc. The AVDS offers you both study and social counselling. During the counselling, you can find out, for example, how you can fulfil your desire to study even with a small pension. AVDS also provides a study guide for retired people with all the important information. You can order the study guide for a fee on the association's website (avds.de).

Another contact point is the Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft Wissenschaftliche Weiterbildung für Ältere (BAG WiWA). This community includes, among others, universities, so-called third-age universities and other providers of senior studies. The community is committed to ensuring that people in retirement also have the opportunity to expand their education in old age. To this end, it publishes its own publications on the topic of studying in old age and organises annual conferences. Through BAG WiWA, you can share your experiences with other retired people and discuss continuing education in old age. In addition, the community will support you with its own counselling service.
